Connectivity

Q1. What 10Gb connection options do I have?
A1. The HP 6120G/XG Blade Switch has three 10Gb uplinks. A built in CX4 connector allows you to connect via a copper cable for distances up to 15 meters. There are also 2 Fiber XFP ports available. Each port will accept either a SR,LR or LRM XFP module depending on the distance required. XFP modules must be purchased through HP. There are also two 1Gb SFP ports for copper or fiber 1GbE connections, and four 1Gb RJ-45 copper uplinks
Q2. Can I use any brand of XFP module?
A2. No. The HP 6120G/XG will support only HP XFP modules. Any other module installed will result in a port failure
Q3. Can I use the 1Gb ports and the 10Gb ports simultaneously?
A3. Yes, one of the benefits of this switch is to be able to use any combination of uplink ports. The RJ-45 uplinks will auto-negotiate to speeds of 10/100/1000Mb and may be used in conjunction with the two SFP ports or the 10Gb Fiber XFP and CX4 uplinks.
Q4. Do I need to purchase any special mezzanine card to use this switch?
A4. No. The switch will operate in interconnect Bays 1&2 without any additional NICs or Mezzanine cards. To add additional switches into any other interconnect-bay, use any of the currently available 1Gb Mezzanine cards or Flex 10 cards such as the NC373m, NC326m Dual Port Adapter or the NC532m. Remember that when using a Flex-10 NIC or Mezzanine, downlink speed will be limited to 1Gb.
