Key Benefits

The Cisco Catalyst Blade Switch 3120 is an evolutionary step in blade switch technology. It brings Cisco networking expertise to the server edge while eliminating the need to manage multiple switches per rack. It's the network simplified.
  » Cisco Stacking Technology
  » Multiple IOS options
  » Greater manageability
  » Security

Cisco Stacking Technology

The Catalyst Blade Switch 3120 family eliminates the need to manage multiple switches per rack.
  • Up to nine switches can be combined into a single logical switch
  • Fully configured, each stack can provide up to 160Gb bandwidth to the upstream network
  • Provides up to 64Gb of intra-switch stacking bandwidth
  • Logical switch appears as single STP node on the network and is accessed via single IP address
  • Supports multiple stacking topologies that provide tailored bandwidth and redundancy solutions to each rack

Multiple IOS options

Catalyst 3120 switches have multiple IP based IOS options that give network managers a cost effective way to precisely control each node in the network.
  • Base IOS contains the most popular feature set including PVLANs, IPv6 host support and most Layer 3 routing protocols
  • The IP services upgrade package provides additional Layer 3 enhancements including OSPF and policy based routing
  • The Advanced IP services upgrade delivers full IPv6 routing, including RIP and OSPF v3
  • Upgrade packages may be purchased and installed at any time, based on the requirements of each stack
  • Catalyst blade switches now have operational consistency with other members of the Catalyst switch family

Greater manageability

Enjoy ease of manageability of the Catalyst 3120 switches as they support the entire Cisco suite of management, provisioning and diagnostic tools.
  • The entire stack is managed as a single switch and looks as one single switch to provisioning software
  • Managed with CiscoWorks, the Catalyst Blade Switch 3120 series can be configured and managed to deliver end-to-end device, VLAN, traffic, and policy management
  • The Catalyst 3120 series supports automated tools such as EEM, GOLD and VFrame DC support to simplify overall management
  • Use Cisco Network Assistant, a PC-based network management application, to centralize network management and configuration
  • SNMP v1, v2c, and v3 and Telnet interface support deliver comprehensive in-band management, and a CLI-based management console provides detailed out-of-band management

Security

The Catalyst Blade Switch 3120 series provides a rich set of tools for securing application data across the network assuring privacy to users and data, while restricting unauthorized network access and attacks.
  • Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) is a logical network topology configured on top of a physical network topology which conserves bandwidth and improves security by limiting traffic to specific groups of devices
  • Supports Cisco's Identity-Based Networking Services (IBNS) which prevents unauthorized network access and insures that users get only their designated privileges
  • Compatible with Cisco Secure Access Control Server (ACS) so that user security profiles and authentication follow the user regardless of where they connect on the network
  • Access Control Lists (ACL's) are maintained in hardware for maximum performance and can be used to guard against denial-of-service and other attacks
  • 802.1x Port Security recognizes the MAC address of the device connecting to it and will set rights or limitations based on predefined security thresholds
