The HP 10GbE Pass-Thru Module is designed for c-Class BladeSystem customers requiring a non-blocking, one -to-one connection between each server and the network. The pass-thru module provides 16 uplink ports that accept  both SFP and SFP+ connectors.

General

Q1. What network speeds does the pass-thru module operate at?
A1. The pass-thru module can operate at 10Gbs or 1Gb depending on the server or network connection
Q2. What happens if the pass-thru module is connected to a 1Gb NIC or Mezzanine card?
A2. If the NIC or mezzanine is capable of 1Gb speeds only, the pass-thru module will auto-negotiate down to that speed. The corresponding uplink must also be at 1Gb.
Q3. Does the pass-thru module support Flex-10 NICs?
A3. Yes, but only as a single 10Gb or 1Gb physical NIC. The pass-thru will auto-negotiate the speed based on the uplink network connection.
Q4. Does the pass-thru module support FCoE?
A4. The pass-thru module will transparently pass FCoE data between a CNA adapter and an FCoE capable ToR switch. The module does not terminate native FCoE on any of the uplink ports.
Connectivity
Q1. Does the pass-thru module support SFP connectors?
A1. Yes, the pass-thru module will support HP supplied SX/LX/RJ-45 1Gb SFP modules.
Q2. What SFP+ connectors are supported?
A2. The pass-thru module supports SR/LR/LRM SFP+ connectors that are HP branded. To maintain reliability, non HP SFP+ modules are not supported.
Q3. Does the pass-thru module support copper uplinks?
A3. The pass-thru module supports passive DAC (Direct Attach Copper) cables of various lengths. The module will accept DAC cables from HP. ProCurve as well as other switch suppliers. Active DAC cables for longer lengths will be forthcoming.
Q4. Is there any optional software for the pass-thru module?
A4. No. The pass-thru module is complete does not require any additional firmware for operation.
Service and warranty
Q1. What type of warranty and support services are available for the pass-thru module?
A1. Like all other interconnect modules, the HP 10GbE Pass-Thru Module comes with a one year world-wide warranty. Additional services such as CarePack and Enhanced Network Configuration Services are available. Please go here for a complete listing of response and service offers.
