CAUTION: If a third-party rack is used, observe the following additional requirements to ensure adequate airflow and to prevent damage to the equipment:

• Front and rear doors: If your 42U server rack includes closing front and rear doors, you must allow 830 square inches (5,350 sq cm) of hole evenly distributed from top to bottom to permit adequate airflow (equivalent to the required 64 percent open area for ventilation).
• Side: The clearance between the installed rack component and the side panels of the rack must be a minimum of 2.75 inches (7 cm).

CAUTION: Always use blanking panels to fill all remaining empty front panel U-spaces in the rack. This arrangement ensures proper airflow. Using a rack without blanking panels results in improper cooling that can lead to thermal damage.

DIMM Installation Guidelines:

1. All DIMMS must be PC3200 DDR 400 MHz SDRAM DIMMs or PC2700 DDR 333 MHz SDRAM DIMMs.
   
2. Both DIMM slots in a memory bank must be populated.
   
3. Both DIMMs in a memory bank must be identical.
   
4. Processor 1 memory bank 1 must always be populated.
   
5. Populate DIMMs beginning with the farthest slots from the processor, starting with the SMALLEST DIMMs first, moving in towards the processor.
   
6. If only installing 1GB DIMMs, ensure that the Dual Rank DIMMs are installed closest to the processor. Dual Rank can be determined by looking for the "2R" or "2R x8" wording on the label of the DIMM.
   
7. For optimal performance in most applications, populate memory bank 1 for every populated processor socket.
   
8. DIMM banks are active only when the corresponding processor socket is populated.
