The Insight Control Management DVD integrated installer provides a streamlined, automated process to deploy and configure HP SIM and ProLiant Essentials software more consistently and rapidly, with less manual intervention.

The integrated installer includes a wizard-based interface that presents a series of configuration questions. Once the configuration questions have been completed, each of the selected components will be deployed as a single process.

The new HP Insight Control Environment Advisor also checks to ensure that the host central management server meets all installation pre-requites prior to initiating the installation process. Once the installation has completed, use the Insight Control Management Software Update Utility to check for available software updates.

HP Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem, based on HP Systems Insight Manager provides a unified, secure and extensible platform to centrally manage servers, storage and other infrastructure devices across hetrogeneous operating system environments.

HP SIM provides core management services that include device discovery and identification, event views, health monitoring, inventory data collection, software version control and reporting. HP SIM is built on industry standards and is extensible with value-added ProLiant Essentials, Integrity Essentials and Storage Essentials as well as custom application and scripts to meet individual management needs.

HP Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem, through iLO Advanced Pack and iLO Select Pack, provide comprehensive Lights-Out remote management capabilities for ProLiant servers, including high-performance virtual KVM for routine and emergency remote administration, remote access to server power control and event logs, virtual media for simple deployment and update of remote servers, and single server power measurement and regulation.

With the latest versions of the iLO Advanced Pack and iLO Select Pack, HP now helps distributed IT teams effectively collaborate to solve complex IT problems. The new shared console capability allows up to four team members to view and share control of a single virtual KVM session. In addition "console replay" captures and saves screen video to enable review of failure sequences and easily document complex configuration administrative tasks.

HP Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem deliver precise power and thermal measurement and reporting for HP ProLiant ML, DL, and BL servers, as well as HP BladeSystem infrastructure components. New power capping functionality complements existing power regulation technology by allowing customers to cap power usage at a particular wattage or at a percentage of a server's maximum power rating. This ensures that data center IT staff and facilities managers have the information they need to optimize server density within existing power and cooling constraints and to ensure efficient use of power resources.

The Insight Power Manager function is supported on a select group of ProLiant servers that ship with the iLO2 management processor. For more information on supported server, please reference the Insight Power Manager Quick Specs.

HP Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem leverages Performance Management Pack (PMP) to detect impeding bottleneck conditions on HP ProLiant servers, HP Integrity servers and HP shared storage. PMP provides proactive notification of building bottleneck conditions, and vital information to help debug and remediate existing performance issues.

Performance data is presented through an interactive graphical interface and can also be logged to a database for later analysis or reporting. PMP includes configurable settings to define monitoring frequency and proactive notification through HP Systems Insight Manager.

HP Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem deliver a complete deployment solution for HP ProLiant servers through Rapid Deployment Pack (RDP). The process includes server hardware configuration, image or script-based installation of OS and applications, and installation of HP ProLiant Support Pack drivers.

With Insight Control Environment in place, server deployments become faster, are more consistent, and less prone to human error.

HP Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem incorporates Vulnerability and Patch Management Pack (VPM) which integrates and simplifies the assessment and resolution of vulnerabilities in operating system and select application for Windows and Linux platforms from within HP Systems Manager.

Powered by STAT® Scanner (the only Common Criteria Certified scanner), Vulnerability and Patch Management Pack automates the detection of security vulnerabilities and provides actionable advice for problem resolution. It also facilitates automated patch deployment, selecting the appropriate patches based on the results of security scans.

VPM automatically downloads patches directly from vendor sources at customer-defined intervals. Updates can be downloaded directly into the patch repository or, in instances where firewall policies prevent http and ftp downloads, acquired outside the data center and manually imported.

Now included with HP Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem and Insight Control Environment, Virtual Machine Management Pack delivers unified management and control of VMware®, Microsoft®, and Citrix virtual machines. Capabilities include association of virtual machines with their physical hosts in HP SIM; monitoring performance for easy identification of VMs or host servers reaching high CPU, memory or disk utilization levels; moving VMs between host servers, including initiating live moves (on supported platforms; requires VMotion for VMware VMs); and rapid recovery capabilities that enable restoration of VMs on any available host. Additionally, VMM offers the ability to evacuate virtual machines from VMware ESX host servers upon receipt of hardware predictive hardware failure alerts by initiating moves using VMware DRS and VMotion. This reduces downtime by relocating the VMs before the host server fails.

With unified management of physical and virtual resources, systems administrators now have the ability extend existing processes to the management of their virtualized infrastructure while leveraging best in class technology for virtual machine deployment, monitoring, and control.

HP Insight Control Environment supports management of all HP ProLiant ML/DL 300, 500 and 700 series servers, while HP Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem supports management of all ProLiant c-Class and recent ProLiant p-Class blade servers. There may be minor discrepancies in hardware support between different software components, so customers are encouraged to consult the Insight Control Management Support Matrix or individual QuickSpecs for the products listed in the "Included Products" section for specifics on platform support.

To enable the power management capabilities of HP Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem, target servers must have an embedded power meter. For a list of systems that support power management, please consult the Insight Control Management Support Matrix.

The central management server hardware hosting the Insight Control Environment or Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem must meet the following minimum requirements.

Software Technical Support and Update Service
Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem include one year of 24 x 7 HP Software Technical Support and Update Service. This service provides access to HP technical resources for assistance in resolving software implementation or operations problems. The service also provides access to software updates and reference manuals either in electronic form or on physical media as they are made available from HP. (Customers who purchase an electronic license to use are eligible for electronic updates only.) With this service, Insight Control and ProLiant Essentials customers will benefit from expedited problem resolution as well as proactive notification and delivery of software updates. If you received a license entitlement certificate, registration for this service will automatically take place upon redemption of the license certificate/key online and a service contract will be created for you.

If the license information you received for your product instructs you to register for Software Technical Support and Update Service, please follow the instructions or you will not be eligible for telephone support or product updates.

Once registered for this service, you will receive a letter in the mail containing the Customer Service Phone number for your reference and your Service Agreement Identifier (SAID). After you have received your SAID, you can go to the Software Update Manager (SUM) web page to view your contract online and elect electronic delivery for your updates.
