Configuration Information

The next generation 9100 Extreme Data Storage System, the HP StorageWorks X9720 Network Storage System is now available. For new system orders please refer to the HP StorageWorks X9000 Network Storage Systems QuickSpecs.

HP would like to offer you the option to enhance your 9100 Extreme Data Storage System with the new software being offered on the new X9720 so you can benefit from the added feature set. If you are interested in upgrading and would like more information please contact your account representative. If you do not want to upgrade your software, HP will continue to support your current storage configuration.

Ordering a hardware upgrade for your 9100 Extreme Data Storage System is an easy process. Simply verify the current system configuration and determine the additional performance and capacity required for the application. Then prepare the system environment for the upgrade.

Step 1 - Verify the current HP 9100 Extreme Data Storage System configuration
How is the system configured today? The 9100 Extreme Data Storage System provides the ability to independently configure the system to meet your specific performance or capacity needs.

Performance is increased by adding Performance Blocks. The system can scale to up to sixteen Performance Blocks and has a minimum of two. Capacity is increased by adding Capacity Blocks. Each Capacity Block provides 82TB of storage. The system can scale to eight Capacity Blocks (656TB) and has a minimum of one (82TB).

You can easily determine the current configuration using the software pre-installed on the system, Please refer to the User Guide for more information.

Step 2 - Determine the 9100 Extreme Data Storage System upgrade required for the application
Size your upgrade

Sizing of the upgrade should be done by an HP StorageWorks Specialist.

Capacity can be added in 82TB increments. The existing capacity plus the upgrade capacity cannot exceed 656TB. If more than 656TB is needed additional system(s) will be required, If the current system has four or less Capacity Blocks and will be upgraded to five or more Capacity Blocks an expansion rack will automatically be added to the order.

Performance can be increased in single Performance Block increments. The number of existing Performance Blocks plus the number of upgrade Performance Blocks cannot exceed 16. If more than 16 Performance Blocks are needed additional system(s) will be required.

NOTE: Systems running software version 1.02 or earlier can only be upgraded using Performance Block model AN542A. Systems running software version 3.0 or later can only be upgraded using Performance Block model AN542B.

Step 3 - Ensure you have the infrastructure available to support your 9100 Extreme Data Storage upgrade

HP Proactive Select offers a broad set of technical or per-event type service options - including server, storage, and network, SAN device, and software, environment, installation and education services. Services that you can mix and match depending on your specific requirements, from preliminary planning and equipment delivery to installation, configuration, integration, and testing, through every level of ongoing support.
