HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System

The HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System serves and stores hundreds of terabytes or petabytes of file-based data for your expanding applications. Designed to be extremely scalable, affordable and easy to manage, ExDS9100 delivers excellent performance and availability for service providers and enterprise customers alike. Its ability to independently scale beyond traditional storage systems in both capacity and performance enables scalability up to a maximum configuration of 16 blades with up to 128 CPU cores for an astounding 3.2 GB/second of raw performance with up to 820 TB of storage. A single management interface allows the administrator to manage not just terabytes but multiple petabyte systems. And it is highly affordable-with both low overall acquisition costs and low operational costs.

Configuration Information

Ordering a 9100 Extreme Data Storage System is an easy process. Once you have qualified that the ExDS9100 is a fit, you determine the performance and capacity requirements for the application. Then, you input that information into the ordering tools - the configuration is built for you automatically based upon your input.
Step 1 - Determine if HP 9100 Extreme Data Storage System is right for you.
Is HP 9100 Extreme Data Storage Right for You? Q: Do you need block or file services from your storage system?
A: If file, then HP ExDS9100 may be right for you. If block services, then consider HP's XP, EVA, MSA storage solutions.
Q: Does your application use NFS v3, CIFS, HTTP, WebDAV or FTP protocols or a proprietary protocol?
A: If yes, then ExDS9100 may be right for you.
Q: Do you need at least 82TB of raw storage?
A: If yes, then the ExDS9100 may be right for you. If not, you may want to consider HP's Scalable NAS products (EFS Clustered Gateway, 4400 Scalable NAS File Services).
Q: Do you need to rapidly deploy capacity and performance?
A: If yes, then ExDS9100 may be right for you. If not, consider HP Scalable NAS.
Q: Do you need support for integrated file system Snapshots?
A: If yes, consider HP Scalable NAS.

Step 2 - Select the right sized 9100 Extreme Data Storage System for you.
Size Your 9100 Extreme Data Storage Solution

The 9100 Extreme Data Storage System provides the ability to independently configure the system to meet your specific performance or capacity needs. Capacity configurations start at 82TB and can be expanded to 820TB in increments of 82TB blocks. Performance can be scaled linearly by adding anywhere from 2 performance blocks up to 16.

Step 3 - Ensure you have the infrastructure available to support your 9100 Extreme Data Storage installation.
Size Your 9100 Extreme Data Storage Infrastructure

The base rack can support up to 4 performance blocks and up to 2 capacity blocks powered with 2 circuits. The expansion rack can support up to 4 capacity blocks powered with 2 circuits. Expansion beyond these limits requires the addition of 2 power circuits to the appropriate rack.

Step 4 - Configure and quote your 9100 Extreme Data Storage System.

NOTE: The ordering tools will be pre-populated with built-in rules to ensure your ExDS9100 system is properly configured. You will only need to specify the number of performance blocks and the number of capacity blocks; the system will build the appropriate configuration.

Input your configuration parameters from step 2 above. The ordering tool will generate the appropriate system configuration.
