| Q1. | What is the change in packaging and pricing for Red Hat Enterprise Linux? | ||||||||
| A1. | Red Hat is simplifying the Red Hat Enterprise Linux product portfolio. Prior to November 2010, Red Hat sold four RHEL products: RHEL, RHEL Advanced Platform, RHEL for VMware, and RHEL as a Virtual Guest. Red Hat is replacing these four products with single product called RHEL Server which can be adapted for different environments. This change will still meet all the needs of our customers.
Red Hat will also offer four RHEL editions for special use cases. These will accommodate needs for other versions such as SAP application workloads, and High Performance Computing (HPC) environments. RHEL Product Cross reference table
|
||||||||
| Q2. | Why has Red Hat made this packaging change and why is it good for customers? | ||||||||
| A2. | The primary driver behind this model change has been customer feedback. Over the last three years, Red Hat has received feedback to make the packaging more flexible and affordable and allow customers to buy only what they use. | ||||||||

| A3. | HP supports all Red Hat updates unless otherwise specified on our server support matrices. HP encourages customers to upgrade to the latest update if possible. | ||||||||
| Q4. | What changes have been made to Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems offered by HP? | ||||||||
| A4. | HP makes no changes to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux software - this is the same packaged product software being offered by Red Hat. However, HP and Red Hat collaborate before and during the beta cycle of a new RHEL operating system to ensure HP hardware and value add software works straight out of the box. | ||||||||
| Q5. | How does HP sell Red Hat Enterprise Linux for HP ProLiant and Integrity Servers? | ||||||||
| A5. | HP sells Red Hat Enterprise Linux products bundled with both the OS subscription license and with HP phone-in support. For more information, visit How to buy. | ||||||||
| Q6. | What is a subscription and how does it differ from a license? | ||||||||
| A6. | Red Hat subscriptions give you access to the latest technology as it's tested and released. This includes upgrades to newer releases at no additional charge for as long as your subscription is active. Your subscription also includes access to Red Hat Network, an efficient solution for managing, updating, and supporting your systems. And finally, you get the reassurance that Red Hat will stand behind and support each product version for seven years. | ||||||||
| Q7. | Why does HP sell version-less Red Hat Enterprise Linux products? | ||||||||
| A7. | HP no longer carries version numbers on our RHEL product list except for the media kits. This allows a customer to buy ANY version of RHEL and install it on a ProLiant or Integrity server. The version of the OS must be supported and HP encourages our customers to refer to our server support matrices before installing the operating system. Visit our RHEL product list. | ||||||||
