Some Essentials have limited multiple operating system support which might impact the combination you can install together. Regardless of whether your selected Essentials can run on the same server, HP SIM can still provide a unified base level of management for your ProLiant, Integrity, NonStop, and HP 9000 servers running different operating systems. |

Yes. You can install Storage Essentials on the same server where HP SIM is installed, except an HP SIM installed on HP-UX. You will have to make sure that the server has enough memory, disk space, and a fast enough processor to efficiently run multiple applications. |

How do I transition from Insight Manager 7 to HP Systems Insight Manager? |

Upgrading from Insight Manager 7 to HP SIM 5.0 is a two-step process.
- Upgrade to HP SIM 4.2: You must be running Insight Manager 7 SP2.3 to upgrade to HP Systems Insight Manager 4.2. If you are running a version of Insight Manager 7 earlier than Insight Manager 7 SP2.3, upgrade to Insight Manager 7 SP2.3 before upgrading to HP SIM 4.2. If you have Insight Manager 7 Service Pack 2, 2.1, or 2.2 installed, the migration process offers an automatic upgrade to Insight Manager 7 Service Pack 2.3. If you have a version earlier than Service Pack 2, you are directed to the HP website to download the Softpaq that will enable you to upgrade to Insight Manager 7 SP2.3. Refer to the Insight Manager 7 User's Guide for information on upgrading from Insight Manager 7 to Insight Manager 7 SP2.3. Refer to the "Transitioning from Insight Manger 7 to HP Systems Insight Manager" white paper at the HP SIM Information Library page for more in-depth detail on this process.
There is a transition utility for Insight Manager 7. This tool will transfer all Insight Manager 7 customizations to HP Systems Insight Manager either through an in place upgrade or by transferring settings from an Insight Manager 7 system to a HP Systems Insight Manager system running on a separate server. Systems Insight Manager will take advantage of the same agents and instrumentation that Insight Manager 7 uses today.
- Then upgrade HP SIM 4.2 to HP SIM 5.0: Go to the HP SIM - Windows Download page and download the lastest version of HP SIM -Windows.

After the first 90 days, there are two support options.
- Windows customers who have a Microsoft Operating System contract are entitled to support under the current Operating Environment. Customers can call the
1-800-633-3600 number for support.
- Linux customers or Windows customers who do not have a Microsoft Operating System contracts can purchase support for the ProLiant Essentials products, including HP SIM, through the advent of Incident Packs. The Incident Packs come in three (3) call quantities for both 24×7 and 9×5 call windows. The part numbers are U8301E and U8222E respectively.
