Using HP Insight Control for Linux to manage HP ProLiant DL785 G6 Servers running Oracle VM

Many Linux users would like to consolidate Oracle applications and databases in a virtualized environment. Oracle VM Manager is the only virtualization software that Oracle supports for its database and applications. Oracle VM Manager is server virtualization software that fully supports both Oracle and non-Oracle applications. Oracle VM Manager is also the only way to partition an x86 server to avoid licensing every core in the server for an Oracle database deployed on that server.

This solution configuration is enabled by HP for Linux x86 users in business-critical environments, and it uses standard HP products (i.e. DL785 G6 rack server, Insight Control for Linux). It enables Linux users to run Oracle applications on Oracle Virtualization Manager (OVM) in an integrated x86 physical and virtual environment on the ProLiant DL785 G6 rack server. The use of HP Insight Control for Linux to manage the physical environment with Oracle VM Manager to manage the virtual environment provides a well-managed solution.

Support for the Oracle Virtual Machine software is available from Oracle, and support for the HP ProLiant DL785 G6 server and HP Insight Control for Linux software is available from HP. Support for the free downloadable software to complete this solution is from HP on a commercially-reasonable-effort basis.
