Overview

HP Insight Control suite for Linux (ICE-Linux) is an affordable solution to manage multi-system Linux environments of industry-standard HP ProLiant servers with productivity for administrators in both Enterprise and Cluster environments.
HP ICE-Linux integrates a robust feature set of the best of open source and HP technologies for discovery, imaging & provisioning, deployment, monitoring, remote access, virtualization, and clustering.
Open source software, such as Nagios® and XEN®, are fully integrated and auto-configured for immediate user productivity. Full lifecycle management is complemented by multi-system scaling, the ability to apply management actions to classes of servers, thermal & power management, and direct-to-the-hardware control. HP ICE-Linux is backed by HP’s Linux expertise and global HP Support.

What's new

HP ICE-Linux v2.10 provides
  1. Affordable virtualization with management for host & guest environments using XEN® (open source hypervisor, typically in Linux distros),
  2. Multi-system scaling to hundreds of nodes,
  3. Integrated firmware update capabilities to support operation at scale and with classes of servers, for version control enablement
  4. Deployment productivity enhancements of 40% for standard deployments and a new ‘Avalanche’ mode for large-scale environments,
  5. Live monitoring ring plots for at-a-glance performance assessment across large numbers of systems using a variety of performance metrics.
  6. Secure remote access and server control using HP iLO Advanced Pack.
  7. Thermal & power management with dynamic capping capability using HP Insight Power Manager.
  8. Optional Cluster stack of open source tools for parallelized computing and Cluster management for teams, workgroups, or departments, and
  9. Broad HP ProLiant support for blade-, rack-, and tower-servers (including IPMI, iLO, and iLO2).

Ideal environment

Ideal for...

Linux-centric organizations that use a variety of open source tools and utilities to manage increasingly complex and growing multi-system environments.
  • An affordable suite of core system management tools, designed for Linux users to control multi-system Linux infrastructures, which integrates the best of open source and HP technologies for discovery, deployment, imaging & provisioning, monitoring (i.e. Nagios®), virtualization (i.e. XEN®), and remotely managing industry-standard servers
  • Discover, deploy, image, and update your systems using integrated tools & scheduling (for groups and classes of servers) to improve productivity.
  • Monitor your systems, or network, or services for health and performance -- to remove the guesswork on the status of your environment
  • Integrate industry-common Nagios®) plug-ins and XEN (open source hypervisor) virtualization in your environment on the HP Systems Insight Manager platform  while maintaining options for new technology innovations in the future

Teams, workgroups, and departments that want to flexibly deploy moderate-size clusters to enhance their output.
  • Affordable performance for managing and monitoring clusters of servers, with a specially-designed ‘Avalanche’ deployment node and tiered management hubs for scale-out monitoring (with auto-configured Nagios®).
  • Distributed Linux management of server groups and classes allows for cloning of user-created images, remote deployment of operating systems and images, and integrated firmware update capabilities which are designed to work ‘at scale’ in large environments.
  • Integrated health and performance monitoring provides ‘Total Control’ of large environments, including live monitoring ring plots for a wide variety of metrics which allows at-a-glance performance assessment across a large number of systems. Maximum performance-on-the-problem is maintained by using lightweight agents (<<1% system usage) without compromising environment control.
  • Optional solution 'Platform HPC for ICE-LX' ensures parallel computing productivity by integrating open source libraries, management, and scheduling software for maximum effectiveness.

Large organizations which need affordable, integrated system management processes and tools to productively manage business-important applications on Linux.
  • Tightly-integrated suite of core system management tools to control the infrastructure -- including capabilities to discover, deploy, image & provision, monitor, virtualize, and remotely manage industry-standard servers
  • Rapid scalable deployment with total control monitoring and alerting to reliably manage Linux lifecycles in multi-system environments.
  • New technologies can be added to the stable HP Systems Insight Manager platform over time to assure growth paths to your IT future
