How To Add A Linux Scripted Install Job For A Newer Update Or Service Pack

Article: 98

Applies to: Release 3.00 and greater

IMPORTANT: The ProLiant Support Pack may fail to install because the version with RDP doesn't support the newer update or service pack.

IMPORTANT: A newer update or service pack may require a code change to deploy with your current RDP release. If this is the case, then a new RDP release that states support for that update or service pack will be required.

To create a new Linux scripted install job to install on a server:

1. On the Deployment Server for the Linux boot files, create a new directory in the .\lib\osdist directory for the specific version and update. For example, for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1 for x86 create .\lib\osdist\rhel51.
2. Copy the entire contents of each distribution DVD or CD into this new directory.
3. For the kickstart or control files, create a new directory in the .\lib\osconfig directory with the same name as the directory created in step 1.
4. Copy the corresponding Linux version kickstart or control file to this new directory. For example, copy the files from .\lib\osconfig\rhel5 to .\lib\osconfig\rhel51.
5. For Release 3.80 or earlier using a Linux compatible editor, edit the kickstart file with modifying all references of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux directory to the directory created in steps 1 and 3. For example, change the end of the line beginning with url --url from osdist/rhel5 to osdist/rhel51. The SUSE LINUX control files do not require modification. For Release 3.81 or later, the Red Hat Linux kickstart files do not require modification.
6. At the Deployment Server console, copy the corresponding Linux scripted install job and rename it adding or replacing the update or service pack name. For example, from the Server Deployment folder, copy the Deploy ProLiant ML/DL/BL + Red Hat EL 5 for x86 + PSP {LinuxPE} job and rename it to Deploy ProLiant ML/DL/BL + Red Hat EL 5.1 for x86 + PSP {LinuxPE}.
7. Edit the new job and it's Run Script - Create Boot Environment task with the following changes:
a. Locate the # replacetokens .\lib\osconfig\yyyy\default.cfg .\lib\osconfig\yyyy\%ID%.cfg line and replace the yyyy value with the directory name created in step 3. For example, change the line to # replacetokens .\lib\osconfig\rhel51\default.cfg .\lib\osconfig\rhel51\%ID%.cfg.
b. Locate the export dist= line and replace the value with the directory in step 1. For example, change the line to export dist=rhel51.
