Licensing General
A license enables a server, either a physical server or a virtual machine, to be deployed and managed by
the Altiris Deployment Server. One license is required for each server being managed. After a
license is applied to a server, it cannot be removed or transferred to another server. This includes
a blade server installed using the Rip-and-Replace procedure. The replacement server automatically
utilizes the original server license for user convenience. However, to be legally licensed, a separate
license must be purchased for each server.
A license file contains licenses for a predetermined number of servers. Purchased license files are not specific
to RDP versions. One license file cannot be shared among multiple Deployment Servers.
To view the number of licensed nodes from the Deployment Server console, click Help > About.
To manage HP servers, you must purchase RDP licenses from HP.
To manage other computers, you must purchase Altiris Deployment Solution licenses.
RDP server licenses cannot be used on a non-RDP Deployment Server.
With RDP licenses starting July 2007, RDP will include one year of 24 x 7 HP Software Technical
Support and Update Service. This service provides access to HP technical resources
for help in resolving software implementation or operations problems. The service
also provides access to software updates and reference manuals either in
electronic form or on physical media, as they are made available from HP.
Additionally, an RDP license gives the rights to use the ProLiant and Integrity
features, and Microsoft Windows Pre-Boot (WinPE) automation environment
that are installed with RDP.

The separate license files will need to be combined.
To replace licenses in an existing installation with a new license file
that has licenses that were combined or transferred, follow the steps above
for adding a license file. At step 3, select Replace all existing license
Activation Keys with this new Activation Key.
