How To Add A Windows Localized Distribution Or Edition

Article: 20000043

Applies to: Release 6.x

Create a new Windows feature for a new localized Windows Server 2003/2008 distribution or a new Windows Server 2003 edition
Update a existing Windows Server 2008 feature for an additional edition

To create a new Windows feature:

1. Copy and rename one of the related feature folders. Do not put localized characters in the new folder name. In the new feature,
a. Delete the jobs and dist subfolders.
b. Create a dist subfolder and copy the new distribution to it.
c. For a localized feature, in the unattend and sysprep files, update the appropriate locale values.
d. For a localized 2003 feature, in the oem\unattend-storage.txt file, update the "IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2/PCI IDE-Controller"=RETAIL line. The correct string can be obtained from the SCSI section in i386\txtsetup.sif file.
e. For a localized 2003 feature, in the oem subfolder, update the Microsoft storport hotfix package and modify the two *-post.cmd scripts to reference it.
2. In the express database, user_tokens table, add a <name, value> pair for the new product key. For 2003, this will be one pair. For 2008, this will be a pair for each edition you plan on supporting.
3. Copy and rename the related scripted install job(s). In the new job(s), update the following tasks accordingly:
a. Distribute Disk Image, update the path to NTFS.IMG
b. Run Script - Copy OEM Files, update the set featuredir= path
c. Run Script - Configure Answer File, update the set featuredir= path and the set productkey= value
d. Run Script - Install OS, update the set featuredir= path
e. Install Package, update the path to unattend-post.cmd
4. Copy and rename the related Sysprep capture and deploy job pair(s). In the new capture job(s), update the following tasks accordingly:
a. Run Script, update the path to sysprep-prep.vbs
b. Create Disk Image, update the path to the output image file and the product key
c. Install Package, update the path to sysprep-post.cmd
In the new deploy job(s),
a. Distribute Disk Image, update the path to the input image file and the product key
b. Install Package, update the path to sysprep-post.cmd

To update a existing Windows Server 2008 feature for an additional edition:

1. Using the User Tokens Editor found at the Deployment Server Console Tools > HP Docs and Tools, add a <name, value> pair for the new product key
2. Copy and rename one of the related unattend files. Modify the new unattend file with the Windows System Image Manager utility included in the Windows AIK install to change the product key token and the Windows edition value.
3. Copy and rename one of related scripted install jobs. In the new job, for the Run Script - Configure Answer File task, update the copy line and the set productkey= line.
4. Copy and rename one of the related sysprep files.
5. Copy and rename the related Capture and Deploy Sysprep jobs. In the new capture job, for the Create Disk Image task, update the output image name and the product key. In the new deploy job, for the Distribute Disk Image task, update the input image name and the product key.
