Answers

General
Q1. What has changed with Lights-Out 100 Remote Management?
A1. Lights-Out 100 Remote Management is a suite of products that enable remote management of ProLiant 100 Series servers.

There are several changes occurring with the version 3.0 release of Lights Out 100 Remote Management for Generation 5 ProLiant 100 series servers.

  • The new LO100c mezzanine supports the ProLiant ML110 G5 server.
  • Improvements to virtual media with the addition of USB 2.0 and DVD-ROM support plus simplified virtual media (floppy and CD with no FTTP server requirements).
  • Enhanced browser interface and Virtual KVM provides an OS-independent remote graphical console.

Q2. Are there feature differences between the Lights-Out 100c Remote Management Cards and the Lights-Out 100i Integrated Management Processors?
A2. The Lights Out 100 products are constantly evolving. Please review the Model Comparison Table and the LO100 Server Compatibility Table for the most up-to-date comparison of features since features vary by release and server generation and earlier server generations will not be able to run newer releases and/or newer cards.
  • The Lights-Out 100i Standard Remote Management offers basic remote management via unsecured interfaces with remote, serial console for all ProLiant 100 series entry level servers.
  • The optional LO100i Select License provides secure remote control, remote serial console, and virtual media.
  • The optional LO100i Advanced License includes all the features LO100i Select plus embedded Virtual KVM (graphical hardware-based, remote console).
  • The LO100c Remote Management Cards and the Lights Out 100i Advanced License share the same feature set.
Q3. What are the intended environments for LO100c?
A3. LO100c provides all the features of LO100i Advanced and Select licenses so you get virtual media, virtual KVM, and data security enhancements required in many enterprise environments. It is ideal for servers that are managed remotely using a graphic console as the primary remote system console in Windows environments or in serial over LAN or secure Telnet consoles for Linux environments.
Technical
Q1. Is there an upgrade to Virtual KVM for my installed, generation 2 ProLiant 100 Series servers?
A1. No. This feature requires new hardware and firmware that are supported only on the newer servers such as the ProLiant 100 series G5 servers, G3 and G4 servers. Previous generation servers are not supported.

Q2. How do the Lights-Out 100 features compare with iLO Standard?
A2. Compared to iLO 2 Standard, the Lights-Out 100 features provide basic capabilities. However, there are some significant differences based on the IPMI and SMASH standards. Please refer to this table for specific comparisons: LO100 Server Compatibility Table.

Q3. Is HP going to deliver full iLO 2 capabilities on ProLiant 100 Series servers?
A3. Lights-Out 100 is intended to provide basic remote control and management for ProLiant 100 Series servers at economical prices. While LO100i and the LO100c Remote Management Card (RMC) provide some overlapping functionality, they are essentially standards-based (IPMI and SMASH) very competitive offerings. iLO 2 will continue to provide a comprehensive suite of advanced, industry-leading functionality for the more demanding remote management environments of ProLiant 300 and 500 series servers as well as ProLiant BL servers, therefore iLO 2 will always be the premier remote management HP offering. Please refer to this table for specific comparisons: LO100 Server Compatibility Table.
