General
Q1. What Microsoft hotfixes are required to install this software?
A1. For SMS 2003 SP2 users, there is one hotfix required. If you experience any difficulties in downloading or installing this hotfix, contact Microsoft support through your normal channels. Microsoft support can always be accessed on the web via http://support.microsoft.com/:
  • KB 915801 to ensure proper reporting of installation status
  • KB 917366 Another scenario is described in a separate KB article available from Microsoft. (This is also solved by the hotfix described in KB915801 above)
For SMS 2003 SP1 users, the following hotfixes have been included in SMS 2003 SP2. HP recommends upgrading to SMS 2003 SP2 if possible. If this is not possible, and you wish to use SMS 2003 SP1, there are several Microsoft hotfixes that must be installed on the SMS Site Server and the SMS Client systems. If you do not install these hotfixes with SMS 2003 SP1, the product will not work. Even if you have previously installed similar hotfixes, please download and install all of the following that apply to your environment.

If you experience any difficulties in downloading or installing the hotfixes, contact Microsoft support through your normal channels. Microsoft support can always be accessed on the web via http://support.microsoft.com/

Hotfixes are available from Microsoft via the URL's noted below.
  • KB 906554 for installation on the SMS site server and remote administration consoles. Both the English and the International Client Pack 1 (ICP1) language versions of this hotfix are available.
  • KB 901034 for installation on all SMS advanced clients. This is supported in English only. CHS, CHT, DEU, ENU, ICP1, ICP2, JPN, KOR, FRN language versions of KB 901034 are available through Microsoft PSS.
  • KB 886197 for 64 bit client systems only. English, ICP1, and ICP2 versions.
  • KB 900401 for installation on the SMS Administrator Console to correct a potential error in Reports. English, ICP1, and ICP2 versions
For SMS 2003 SP3 no hotfixes are required.

It offers full support for the features of SMS 2003 SP1 and SP2, and allows SMS users to take advantage of updates available through the extensive online catalog of software components for HP servers.

  • Adds support for 64-bit ProLiant and Integrity servers to the SMS environment

Q4. How do I get support for this product?
A4. First, use the Troubleshooting Assistant that comes with the product kit. It is designed to help you diagnose and resolve the most common installation and configuration problems experienced by our customers.

If you are unable to solve the problem with the Troubleshooting Assistant, it will provide the link to e-mail support from HP. Assistance on this product is only available via e-mail at SMSIntegrationPack.Support@hp.com. Please collect the below information and include it in your email.
  • Microsoft® Windows® operating system version and patch levels
  • SMS Inventory Tool for HP ProLiant and Integrity Update version installed

Q1. What hardware platforms are supported by the HP SMS Inventory Tool?
A1. The SMS Inventory Tool for SMS 2003 SP1 supports the following hardware platforms as SMS managed servers:

HP ProLiant servers
  • HP ProLiant DL, ML and BL series servers except 100-series servers
  • Includes support for all 32-bit and 64-bit ProLiant systems

The inventory tool also supports SMS functionality on the following HP Integrity Servers:
  • rx1620
  • rx2600
  • rx2620
  • rx2660
  • rx3600
  • rx4640
  • rx5670
  • rx6600
  • rx7620
  • rx7640
  • rx8620
  • rx8640
  • Superdome series servers
 
Q2. What platforms are supported as SMS Site Servers?
A2. Any ProLiant BL, DL, or ML-series server with adequate resources can be used as an SMS site server. Specific requirements are specified in the User's Guide and SMS documentation provided by Microsoft.

Integrity Servers and x-64 based servers are not supported as SMS Site Servers.
 
Q3. What languages are supported as SMS Site Servers?
A3. Site servers running under simplified Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish localization are supported Microsoft hotfixes for SMS specific to these localizations must be installed.
 
Q4. What PSP and ISP versions are Supported?
A4. ITHU supports the PSPs and ISPs that are in the HP catalog; generally that includes the latest 3 PSPs/ISPs for Window server 2003 and PSP 7.5-7.6 for Windows server 2000. The Collect Utility supports up to PSP 7.9 and ISP 5.2.

Updating from SMS 2.0
Q1. Can I upgrade my HP or Compaq data from SMS 2.0 to SMS 2003?
A1. Yes. Supported data migration paths from SMS 2.0 to SMS 2003 for HP and Compaq inventory data are described in the User Guide provided with the Insight Integration for SMS 2003.
 
Q2. Can I upgrade from previous versions of the integration kit?
A2. Yes. Supported data migration paths from previous ProLiant integration tools to the SMS Inventory Tool are described in the user guide provided with the tool.
 
Q3. What is included in the downloadable kit?
A3. HP provides the software, the installation guide and the user guide, and the Troubleshooting Assistant. This is downloaded from HP. Required Microsoft hotfixes are available from Microsoft via links elsewhere on this page.
 
Updating from Version 1.0 of the HP SMS Inventory Tool for ProLiant and Integrity Update
Q1. What happens to customized changes to version Reports, Collections or config files?
A1. You are recommended to back up any customized changes to Collections, Reports, and Scantool or Synctool config files before completing the upgrade and restore the changes after the upgrade is completed.
