| Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC) |
| Q1. |
Why are SNMP events not being displayed on the Tivoli Enterprise Console? |
| A1. |
The SNMP adapter may not be installed or may not be working properly. Refer to the "IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console Adapter's guide" for more details.
|
| |
| Q2. |
Why are HP events not being displayed on the Tivoli Enterprise Console? |
| A2. |
Assuming that Insight Management Agents are installed and active on the related HP managed nodes and endpoints, this problem is usually caused by an un-configured Tivoli SNMP adapter.
Verify the SNMP adapter configuration as follows:
- Confirm that other / non-HP SNMP events are being received by viewing the Sub-source column in the TEC display. The sub-source column should display SNMP for at least one event.
- Check that the SNMP adapter files, tecad_snmp.cds and tecad_snmp.oid, have been updated with HP event data.
- Check that the active Tivoli Rulebase includes the ins_evt.baroc and ins_evt.rls files provided with the HP Insight Integration for Tivoli.
For more details, refer to the HP Insight Integration for Tivoli user guide.
|
| |
| Q3. |
Why are some HP events not being displayed on the TEC |
| A3. |
The HP Insight Integration for Tivoli is designed to identify and display all SNMP events instrumented by the supported range of Insight Management Agents.
If certain HP events are not being displayed on the TEC, this may be caused by the use of unsupported versions of Insight Management Agents. If events for a support version of Insight Management Agents are not being displayed, make a list of the related events and contact HP support for further assistance.
|
| |
| Q4. |
Can I manually configure my Tivoli SNMP Adapter and Event Server to receive events generated by the Insight Management Agents? |
| A4. |
The documentation provided with the HP Insight Integration for Tivoli includes detailed procedures for manually updating the Tivoli SNMP Adapter, Event Server and Event Console.
|
| |
| Q5. |
How can I check that the HP SNMP trap notification is working correctly? |
| A5. |
There are a number of ways to test if SNMP notification is working correctly as follows:
Testing the Tivoli SNMP Adapter
To verify that the Tivoli SNMP Adapter is installed and is forwarding events correctly to TEC (port 5529 for Windows and port 0 for UNIX), try running the following generic trap from any managed node:
wsnmptrap -h hostname 1.0 1 100
In the previous example, hostname is the name or IP address of the system running the Tivoli SNMP Adapter. If this trap is not displayed in the TEC SNMP event group, the problem is not with the HP Insight Integration module but with the SNMP Adapter, TEC, or networking components.
Testing the HP SNMP Traps on ProLiant Servers running Windows
If you are not certain that the SNMP notification process is working, you can help to verify this by sending an Insight Management Agent Test Trap from any ProLiant server running active Insight Management Agents.
In the SNMP section of the Insight Management Agent for Servers applet, located in the Windows Control Panel, there is a Test Trap button. Clicking Test Trap initiates a test trap from the local system, and a window should appear indicating that the trap was sent. If the server has the correct SNMP trap destination defined and the SNMP Adapter is installed and configured correctly, a generic HP trap should be received in the SNMP Event group of the TEC.
Faking an HP Insight Management Agent SNMP Trap
This is an example command that can be executed from the TMR or managed node to simulate an HP Insight SNMP trap. It should be received and displayed in the SNMP event group of the TEC. Note that there are spaces before "1.3.6…" on the lines following wsnmptrap. Hostname should be replaced with the IP address of the managed node running the configured Tivoli SNMP Adapter.
The following command will invoke the HP SNMP trap Logical Drive Status:OK IM_3008:
wsnmptrap -h hostname 1.3.6.1.4.1.232 6 3008\
1.3.6.1.2.1.1.5 OctetString "hpqSNMPTest"\
1.3.6.1.4.1.232.11.2.11.1 Integer 0\
1.3.6.1.4.1.232.3.2.3.1.1.4 Integer 2 |

| Tivoli Inventory |
| Q1. |
How do I generate a .MIF file for HP servers? |
| A1. |
A *.MIF file for HP servers can be generated by executing the Inventory Collector (collect.exe) locally or through the task provided in the HP Insight Integration for Tivoli kit. For more details, refer to the Inventory chapter in the HP Insight Integration for Tivoli user guide.
|
| |
| Q2. |
Why is HP server data from an endpoint not being updated in the Tivoli repository after distributing the profile? |
| A2. |
HP server data may not be updated due to one or more of the following reasons:
- The Inventory collector has not been executed on the endpoint.
- The resultant .MIF file has not been created on the endpoint in the specified directory.
- The Path is not specified in the distributed profile to parse the .MIF file, or the path specified in the distributed profile is incorrect.
|
| |
| Q3. |
Why do I get a "No data found for query" error when I execute some HP related queries, but receive correct data for other HP related queries? |
| A3. |
The data related to the failed query has not been updated to the Tivoli repository. Verify that the hardware or software elements related to the data query are present on the system, and that the related data has been scanned and updated in the repository.
Refer to the previous question for possible causes.
|
| |
| Q4. |
Why do I get an "inserted value too large for column" error when the repository is being updated after profile distribution? |
| A4. |
The size of the data being updated into the Tivoli repository is larger than the size specified in the defined schema. Contact HP support.
|
| |
| Q5. |
How do I create new queries to get HP related data? |
| A5. |
New queries for HP data can be created by either updating the existing hptiv_queries.sh file located in hpq\Inventory directory of the HP Insight Integration for Tivoli, or by creating a new file with queries in the same format.
