Answers

General
Q1. What is Flex-10?
A1. Flex-10 is a feature unique to HP c-Class BladeSystem that allows a 10Gb NIC to be carved into multiple individual FlexNIC's. Each FlexNIC is recognized by server ROM as an individual NIC and the Bandwidth for each FlexNIC is user defined from 100Mb to 10Gb.
Q2. What Flex-10 interconnects will the NC522m work with?
A2. The only Flex-10 interconnect is the HP Virtual Connect Flex-10 Ethernet Module.

Q3. Can the NC522m be used as a regular 10Gb NIC?
A3. Yes. When used with a non Flex-10 interconnect such as the ProCurve 6120XG Blade Switch, the adapter will work as a standard 10Gb dual port NIC.
Q4. Are there any advantages of the NC522m compared to the NC512m?
A4. Yes, there are several. The main advantages include the next generation IEEE 10GbE 10GBase-KR standard, lower power usage, Windows RSS, 9K industry standard jumbo frames, 802.1Q VLAN support, Windows teaming, and PXE.
Q5. Can this adapter work with the HP 10Gb Ethernet BL-c Switch?
A5. No. The HP 10Gb Ethernet BL-c Switch must be paired with the NC512m Dual Port 10GbE Adapter.
Q6. When will Flex-10 support be available on the NC522m?
A6. Flex-10 support will be available via a firmware release in 4Q2010.
Technical
Q1. Exactly what is difference between KR and KX4 referenced in the specification?
A1. 10GBase-KR is the new IEEE standard for 10 Ggiabit Ethernet signals across a blade enclosure backplane. It is the 10GbE standard going forward replacing the IEEE 10GBase-KX4. It allows for additional functionality, more power efficient devices and greater backplane utilization. Unfortunately, the two standards are not compatible with each other.
Service Warranty
Q1. What is the warranty of the NC522m?
A1. The NC522m is supported with a worldwide limited one year warranty or the warranty of the server it is installed in, whichever is greater.
Q2. Is the NC522m covered under HP's CarePack service?
A2. Yes, CarePack service agreements for the enclosure cover the NC522m.
