Answers

What's new
Q1. What is the NC524SFP?
A1. The NC524SFP is dual port, x8 PCI Express 10 Gigabit Ethernet upgrade module specifically designed for the DL370 G6 and ML370 G6.
Q2. What's New about the NC524SFP?
A2. The NC524SFP is the first dual port 10Gigabit upgrade module for ProLiant platforms. It is unique to the DL370 G6 and ML370 G6, converting two 1GbE ports to 10GbE ports.

Q3. What network controller is used in the NC524SFP?
A3. The NC524SFP uses the NetXen NX3031 controller embedded on the DL370 G6 or ML370 G6.

General
Q1. What ProLiant servers support the NC524SFP as a qualified option?
A1. Only the DL370 G6 and ML370 G6 support the NC524SFP at this time.

Q2. Can the NC524SFP be used in x4 or x8 PCI Express slots?
A2. No. The NC524SFP does not fit in any PCI Express slot. It is plugged into the connector designed for this purpose on the DL370 G6 and ML370 G6.

Connectivity
Q1. What are SFP+ connectors?
A1. The NC524SFP ships with two SFP+ (Small Form Factor Pluggable) cages, which can be configured for attaching the adapter to copper or fiber optic networks.
Q2. What is Direct Attach Cable (DAC)?
A2. Direct Attach Cable (DAC) is used to connect the NC524SFP to copper networks. The cable includes a connector that plugs into the SFP+ cage. Direct Attach Cable is available from HP in lenghts up to seven (7) meters.

Q3. What are SR, LR, and LRM fiber optic modules?
A3. SR, LR, and LRM fiber optic modules are used to connect the NC524SFP to fiber optic networks. SR (Short Range), LR (Long Range), and LRM (Long Reach Multi-mode) modules are available from HP, as are fiber-optic cables.

Q4. The cables and transceivers are sold separately; are they required?
A4. Yes. The NC524SFP requires that you purchase either Direct Attach Cable, which includes the connector for the SFP+ cages, or fiber trancivers and fiber cable for fiber-optic environments. The fiber tranceivers are separate from the fiber cable to allow support for different distances.
Complementary products
Q1. What is the difference between the NC524SFP module and the NC522SFP adapter?
A1. Both the NC524SFP and the NC522SFP are dual port 10GbE PCI Express networking devices. The NC524SFP is supported only on the DL370 G6 and ML370 G6; the NC522SFP is supported on a wide range of ProLiant platforms.
