HP Multifunction Networking products support TOE (TCP/IP Offload Engine) and accelerated iSCSI (Internet Small Computer Systems Interface) over a single connection. |

Until now, the typical server environment required separate connectivity products for networking, storage, interconnects, and infrastructure management. Not so with these new multifunction network adapters. Because these adapters present a single connection supporting multiple functions, they can assume any defined networking role, thereby allowing you to manage your entire infrastructure as a single, unified fabric. |

When a multifunction network adapter is configured as a TOE device for Windows (Multifunction Gigabit Ethernet) and Windows and Linux (Multifunction 10 Gigabit Ethernet), the TCP/IP protocol stack is offloaded to the network adapter. Shifting the processing of the communications protocol stack from the host CPU to the server adapter improves network communications while it also increases server efficiency. |

Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) allows Ethernet server adapters to function both as a network adapter and as a storage host bus adapter, thereby providing access to storage boxes and to servers over a single connection; an invaluable asset when consolidating your resources and simplifying your infrastructure. HP Multifunction adapters take iSCSI one step further by supporting accelerated iSCSI that offloads the iSCSI software to the server adapter for improved system performance.
The HP Insight software Accelerated iSCSI Pack is required to enable accelerated iSCSI on HP servers with embedded Multifunction Gigabit Ethernet server adapters. For a list of ProLiant servers with embedded Multifunction server adapters, please refer to the above server list. For more information on the Accelerated iSCSI Pack, please go to www.hp.com/go/iscsi. The Insight software Accelerated iSCSI Pack is not required for the Multifunction mezzanine cards and the Multifunction Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet server adapters because accelerated iSCSI comes standard on these optional cards.
