Q1. Where can I find detailed information on the BL2x220c specifications and supported options?
A1. The BL2x220c QuickSpecs include descriptions of all models of the ProLiant BL2x220cc and an extensive list of supported options from HP
Q2. What is the difference between the BL2x220c and other BladeSystem Servers from HP?
A2. The BL2x220c provides increased density by providing for up to two server nodes per blade server bay. Each server node can support up to 2 Dual or Quad-Core Intel Xeon CPUs and up to 32GB of RAM. Although all data and management traffic is passed through a single mid-plane connector that is located on one of the server nodes, each server node operates independantly of the other, having its own Operating System and workload.
Q3. What options are available for the ProLiant BL2x220c blade server?

THe BL2x220c provides optional support for:
  • Additional CPUs
  • Additional Memory
  • Small Form Factor (SFF) SATA Hard Disk Drives
  • Mezzanine cards for I/O including options: Ethernet, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand
Q4. What firmware is required to support the BL2x220c?
A4. The BL2x220c requires the use of the HP BladeSystem c7000 or c3000 Blade Enclosure running the latest revisions of Onboard Administrator and Virtual Connect firmware. For details see HP BladeSystem c-Class Compatibility Matrix

Q1. What type of ProLiant Management ships standard with the BL2x220c?
A1. iLO 2 Standard Blade Edition ships standard with every c-Class server blade . It is an enhanced, essential remote management software for the next generation ProLiant BL servers.
Q2. What is iLO 2 Select Pack?
A2.

i LO 2 Select Pack is an optional licensed Lights-Out upgrade for ProLiant BL servers. For additional details on the Bladesystem Management see HP BladeSystem Management. For additional details on the BladeSystem Management see HP BladeSystem Management.

The iLO Select Pack includes:

  • Power Capping to enforce control of blade power consumption
  • Power Regulator Reporting
  • Directory Services
  • Two Factor Authentication
Q3. As the BL2x220c is two server nodes in a single blade bay is there one iLO per server node or a single iLO for the blade?
A3. There is one iLO for each server node. Each server node can be managaged independently of the other. This allows for example, a server administrator to view the console of one server node through the Virtual KVM function without affecting the other server node.
Q4. What management tools are available for BladeSystem?
A4. The Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem is the primary management tool for BladeSystem. It provides monitoring, deployment, performance management and patch management capabilities. Q5. I have a purely Linux enviroment what management tools are available for BladeSystem?
A5. While HP SIM is ideal at addressing mixed platform and operating system environments, Insight Control Linux Edition is designed for Linux centric environments. Based around HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) Insight Control Linux Edition is focused on delivering an HP BladeSystem-specific and Linux-optimized management and deployment solution (and supports Linux and Windows targets).

Q1. What is the warranty on this product?
A1. The BL2x220c is supported with a Worldwide Limited warranty featuring 1 years of parts, labor, and next business day on-site service responce. In addition processors, memory, and hard drives are also covered by HP's prefailure warranty. Click for a complete description of the warranty.
Q2. What service offerings are recommended?
A2. HP recommends same day 24x7, 4 hour response Hardware support combined with 24x7 2 hour response Software Technical support. This combination provides ready access to technical expertise, support for complex interoperrability issue resolution, helping minimize any downtime and improve server availability, and enabling customers to focus on their core business. Q2. What is changing with HP Care Pack blades server hardware support offers?
A2. HP Services introduce a new HP Care Pack strategy for blades servers, effective 1st April. The revised HP Care pack pricing is based on 4 server families. The BL2x220c, other BL2xxc servers, BL4xxc servers and BL6xxc servers. A full portfolio of warranty upgrade offers are available for each grouping. 13x5 and 24x7 4 hour response plus 24x7 6 hour call to repair with 1,3,4 and 5 year coverage options available.

Q1. Can I purchase a BladeSystem Enclosure with the BL2x220c Server Blades already configured and installed and have this delivered in a single box.
A1. Yes, HP Factory Express provides a flexible customizable service that allows you to you have blades configured installed and delivered in an enclosure or even have a full rack delivered to your site and installed.

A2.

HP Factory Express can provide a complete custom configuration solution including:

  • Server Blade and Enclosure hardware configuration and installation
  • Physical racking of enclosures and delivery of configured racks

Configuration and Utilities
Q1. Can the BL2x220c be installed in the same enclosure as other c-Class Blades?
A1. Yes, but the mapping of the BL2x220c I/O ports to I/O bays in the enclosure is different to other half-height blades. See the Quickspecs for more information.
  • For c7000 configurations Interconnect bays 1,2,3,4 are reserved for Ethernet
  • For c7000 configurations Fibre Channel, InfiniBand or other Interconnects must be placed in bays 5 & 6 or 7 & 8
  • For c3000 configurations Interconnect bays 1 & 2 are reserved for Ethernet
  • For c3000 configurations Fibre Channel or other Interconnects must be placed in bays 3 & 4
