The foundation of an adaptive infrastructure is built upon the software contained in the ProLiant Essentials Foundation Pack, which is provided with all ProLiant servers at no charge. This software is an intrinsic component of every ProLiant solution; it is part of the reason why customers choose ProLiant, time and again, over the competition.

The Foundation Pack provides all the essential software needed to set up a reliable, well-integrated, fully managed server. It includes the Management CD, which contains the Compaq Intelligent Manageability products, including Compaq Insight Manager 7, Compaq Management Agents, and Compaq ActiveUpdate. For ProLiant ML and DL servers, the Foundation Pack also includes the SmartStart CD, which contains the SmartStart application and Compaq system utilities and operating system support software. For ProLiant BL servers, a CD containing an evaluation version of the ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack is provided instead of the SmartStart CD. Appropriate instructions on how to use the enclosed CDs as well as where to obtain additional information and any required licenses are also provided to complete the Foundation Pack.

- Integration Agents for HP Insight Manager - for customers who have invested in popular management frameworks, individual agents are available to integrate Compaq Intelligent Management capabilities into those frameworks
- Legacy Intelligent Manageability products - many legacy products that originally shipped on the SmartStart or Management CDs can still be downloaded from the web.
