| Q2. |
How does PMP integrate with HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) 5? |
| A2. |
- A "main page" performance (PF) column is available on the HP Systems Insight Manager main page which PMP maintains
- The HP SIM menu bar is populated with specific options to access PMP tools, settings and reports
- PMP will generate HP Systems Insight Manager alerts for event notification on bottlenecks - users set notification rules within HP SIM.
- PMP 4 and HP SIM 5 share an instance of the database server software (MSDE, MS SQL Server, or Oracle)
- PMP installs silently as part of the HP SIM installation from the Management CD

| Licensing |
| Q1. |
How is PMP licensed? |
| A1. |
Upon installation of PMP the server running HP Systems Insight Manager and PMP is automatically licensed for free. Also all ProLiant 1600, 1850R, 3000, 5500, 6400R, 6500, 7000, 8000, and 8500 servers (as long as they have a Xeon processor and a supported operating system and Insight Management Agent) are automatically licensed for free.
For each of the other servers and each shared storage device monitored, a separate license must be purchased before they can be monitored. These licenses can be purchased individually or in "flexible license packs."
The license is delivered in the form of a unique key that is entered in the license administration screen. Flexible license packs provide a single license key to enter, in order to activate the total number of licenses ordered.
Licenses are subsequently "attached" to the servers (or shared storage devices) to be monitored. Licenses cannot be attached to servers that are not supported, do not have a supported operating system, or do not have the right version of the Insight Management Agent installed. Once a license is attached to a server it cannot be revoked; it will stay with that server for the life of the server. The license is attached to the server serial number, so a change in server's name or IP address will not jeopardize the license.
The entire licensing process takes place on the console server; no changes are made to the monitored server.

| Q2. |
Can PMP licenses float from one server to the next? |
| A2. |
No, PMP licenses, once used, are locked to a particular server. If that server is retired the PMP license is also retired. |
|
| Q3. |
How can I get an evaluation license for PMP? |
| A3. |
You can contact your sales or channel representative for an evaluation license. However, each new installation of PMP comes with 5 free, fully functional licenses to be assigned to whatever server or shared storage system you choose. |
|
| Q4. |
How do I purchase additional licenses and do I need to reinstall the product? |
| A4. |
Additional licenses can be purchased just like system options. You can purchase either single-server licenses, 10-server license packs, or "flexible-quantity license packs". There is no need to reinstall the product. Additional licenses can be added to a previously installed PMP at any time. |
|
| Q5. |
How can I get a site license for PMP? |
| A5. |
Contact your sales or channel representative. They can arrange for flexible licensing to suit your needs. |
