Answers

Racks

Q1. Can I install HP servers in non HP racks?
A1. Most HP server models can be installed in 19-inch EIA standard 4-post racks that do not have threaded holes. Newer servers come with rackmount kits that can be used with many types of racks. Refer to the installation guide that came with your server for specific instructions. Guides for Windows servers are available here.

Q2. How do I get parts for my HP rack?
A2. Parts for HP racks are available directly from HP in the U.S. and from HP service parts resellers outside the U.S.
Q3. How can I find out the part number for HP rack parts?
A3. HP part surfer gives easy access to parts information for a wide range of HP products. You can search for part information by product name or model number.

Q4. How do I transfer equipment from an older HP rack to the newer Rack System/E?
A4. Some server models will require a spacer kit, product number J1516A. Spacers are needed for rackmount kits that attach to the inside surface of the rack columns. If the rackmount kit attaches to the front face of the rack column, the spacer will not be needed.

Q5. Can I install new HP equipment in older HP racks?
A5. Yes, new HP computing gear can be installed in older HP racks, as well as in many non-HP racks. Refer to the installation guide that shipped with your server for specific instructions. Guides for Windows servers are available here.

Q6. Can HP servers be installed in 2-post telco-style racks?
A6. Many HP servers can be mounted in two-post telco-style racks using the standard hardware provided. In some cases, an additional 2-post slide-mount adapter will be required, product number J1480A.

Some rack vendors also have adapter kits available for mounting HP servers. Check with your rack vendor for more information.
