Answers

Q1: Is upgrading the Environmental Monitoring Unit (EMU) required?
A1: Yes. In order for the enclosure to operate properly at Ultra320 interface speeds, the EMU must also be upgraded. The EMU is hot-swappable and is provided with each Module Upgrade Kit.

Q2: Will upgrading the I/O module on the enclosure cause the system to operate at U320 interface speeds?
A2: No. You must upgrade the EMU and the enclosure must be connected to a qualified Ultra320 Smart Array Controller or Ultra320 Host Bus Adapter. The hard disk drives must also be Ultra320 as well.

Q3: Do I need new cables for the Ultra320 Module Upgrades?
A3: No. The same VHDCI cables used for the SW4300 and SW4200 Enclosures will also support the Ultra320 Single Bus and Dual Bus upgrade I/O Modules.

Q4: What array controllers and SCSI adapters will work with the StorageWorks Ultra320 I/O Module Upgrade Kits?
A4:
  • Ultra3 SCSI adapter
  • Ultra320 SCSI adapter
  • SA-5i/SA-5i+
  • SA-532
  • SA-5302/SA-5304
  • SA-5312
  • SA-642
  • SA-6402/SA-6404
  • 3X-KZPEA-DB

  • MSA1000
  • HSG80 (MA8000, EMA12000, EMA16000)

Q5: Can I upgrade the StorageWorks 4314 or 4354 Tower Model?
A5: Yes. An upgrade for the Ultra3 and Ultra2 tower models will be supported. Again, to achieve an end-to-end Ultra320 interface connection the upgraded enclosure must be connected to an Ultra320 Smart Array Controller or Ultra320 Host Bus Adapter as well as Ultra320 hard drives.
