Maintains uptime

Recovery Server Option allows one ProLiant server to stand-by as a backup for another identically configured server. One server functions as the primary server and the other server functions as the hot standby recovery server. RSO is installed in each server and the image of the Operating system and the applications reside in the Smart Array Cluster Storage. Applications are restarted on the recovery server when a fatal fault is detected in the hardware or the operating system of the primary server. The Failover operation is automatic and unmanned. Since no operator intervention is required, RSO is ideal for High Availability deployments in remote sites, distributed environments where IT infrastructure is limited.

Easy to install

RSO was designed with simplicity of setup and deployment and management in mind. The menu based configuration interface is simple and intuitive, and the whole installation process takes only a few minutes. RSO does not require any clustering expertise; in fact RSO works in the background and does not interfere with standard server operation. Once installed, the tray icon provides the user with a constant status signal on RSO readiness. RSO is managed through Insight Manager, HP's powerful and popular server management tool. The fully automated server failover is ideal for unattended and "lights out" operation, in addition, RSO practically eliminates unscheduled downtime giving the IT manager the flexibility to service the server at a convenient time.

Flexible solution

RSO fits customer's needs for HA in a variety of situations such as remote sites for unassisted or "lights out" operation, distributed environments as a departmental HA solution, even as an application specific HA solution for those applications that require continuous uptime, i.e. Mail and Messaging, File and Print, Finance and Accounting. Customers that have Custom Applications that are not cluster aware stand to benefit a great deal from the RSO solution, these customers will finally be able to have an HA solution to keep their custom apps up an running, even in the event of server or OS failure.

Low cost

RSO provides compelling value to customers by providing a low cost entry level high availability solution. RSO does not require the OS or its applications to be cluster aware, this means that RSO customers will experience a new level of HA economics by not requiring OS and applications versions that support clustering. The RSO solution uses the Smart Array Cluster Storage as the shared storage device, requiring only one operating system and application image. This could result in savings in licensing fees for the customer. * (*Consult your software vendor End User Licensing Agreement.)
