install the UPS chassis

The UPS R12000 XR and any ERMs are extremely heavy and must be installed at the bottom of the rack. If you place them in a rack with existing equipment, you must reconfigure the rack to allow installation of the UPS at the bottom of the rack.

In addition, if you are installing an ERM, the ERM must be installed at the bottom of the rack, with the UPS directly above it.

Make sure that the rack containing the UPS is completely stable. The rack must meet the following conditions:

  • The leveling feet are extended to the floor.
  • The full weight of the rack rests on the leveling feet.
  • The stabilizing feet are attached to the rack, if it is a single-rack installation.
  • The racks are coupled together in multiple-rack installations.
  • A rack might become unstable if more than one component is extended for any reason. Extend only one component at a time.

Important!
To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment, take the following precautions when installing the equipment:

  • Use the lift-out tray only to unload the UPS.  Do not use the lift-out tray to transport or carry the UPS.
  • The UPS R12000 XR must be mounted on the fixed rails included in the UPS package. Refer to the installation card and rack template for instructions on rack-mounting the UPS R12000 XR.
  • Do not use slides to mount the UPS in the rack. Use the fixed rails supplied in this kit.
  • Placing the UPS on the rails is a two-person job.  Do not attempt to do this alone.

Once you have secured the rails in the rack:

  1. With one person on each side of the box, remove the UPS chassis from the package using the lift-out tray.
  2. Gently lower the chassis to the floor in front of the rack.
  3. Cut the band that holds the chassis, freeing it from the lift-out tray.
  4. With one person on each side, lift the chassis to rail level and slide into place.
  5. Attach the chassis to the rack using screws and cage nuts supplied with the rack.
