Q1. How is this new HP R3000 UPS different from the legacy product?
A1. The new HP R3000 UPS is an enhancement of the current R3000 UPS product. The HP R3000 UPS offers industry leading power density by supporting more power in less rack U-space. It supports 3000VA / 2700 Watts of power in just 2U of rack space. HP R3000 UPS has several feature enhancements including a revolutionary battery technology that provides more efficient voltage regulation, where the input voltage is automatically regulated without going onto battery.
 
Q2. How many Option Card slots does the HP R3000 UPS have?
A2. The HP R3000 UPS has one option card slot.
 
Q3. How many receptacles does the HP R3000 UPS have?
A3. The high voltage models of the HP R3000 UPS have a total of ten receptacles (including the PDU receptacle) divided into three load segments. The low voltage models have a total of seven receptacles (including the PDU receptacle) divided into three load segments.
 
Q4. What options are offered in support with this product?
A4. The Six Port Card, the SNMP Serial Card and Extended Runtime Module are available with the HP R3000 UPS. HP also offers several Power Distribution Units (PDU) that can be used in conjunction with the HP R3000 UPS. Click for more information on options that are available.
 
Q5. Will these new options also work with the older, legacy product?
A5. No, the Six-Port Card, the SNMP/Serial Card, and the ERM will not work with the legacy rackmount UPS products including the R1500, R3000 and R6000 UPS models.
 
Q6. Will the HP R3000 UPS support the older, legacy multi-server card and the scaleable card?
A6. No.
 
Q7. What hardware does the HP R3000 UPS support?
A7. The HP R3000 UPS supports all HP rackmountable servers, storage and options products.
 
Q8. Does the HP HP R3000 UPS ship with any software?
A8. The HP R3000 UPS supports HP Power Management Software (CPM) version 1.8. In addition the HP R3000 UPS also supports the LanSafe III management software.
 
Q9. What Operating Systems will the HP Power Management Software version 1.8 support?
A9. The HP Power Management Software version 1.8 supports the following operating systems:
  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows 2000
  • NetWare 3.x, 4.x, and 5.x
  • SCO 5
  • UnixWare 2 and 7

A10. LanSafe III version 4.15 supports the following operating systems:

Q11. Does the HP R3000 UPS support Alpha Systems and Tru64 UNIX?
A11. The HP R3000 UPS ships with LanSafe III power management software which supports Tru64 UNIX.
 
Q12. Can I run the HP R3000 UPS on a server running Linux?
A12. Yes, the HP R3000 UPS ships with LanSafe III power management software that supports Linux. LanSafe III power management software supports many versions of Linux. (Please see question 10 for more details).
 
Q13. Does the HP R3000 UPS have a "bypass" switch like the R6000?
A13. No, The HP R3000 UPS goes into "automatic bypass" mode when the UPS power modules fails or is removed. The R6000 UPS features a manual bypass switch.
 
Q14. Does the HP R3000 UPS (low voltage model) still allow the opportunity to connect to my low voltage HP PDU to the new UPS (the PDU with the L5-30 receptacle)?
A14. Yes.

Q15. Does the HP R3000 UPS still allow the opportunity to connect my high voltage HP PDU? (the PDU with the IEC 320 receptacle)?
A15. Yes.

Q16. Is the UPS r3000 generator compatible?
A16. Yes, but make sure the UPS r3000 has the correct firmware version 1.07. Should you not have this firmware version (1.07), you may download it off this Web site. Click to download firmware version (1.07).

Q17. What service and warranty support does this product have?
A17. The HP R3000 UPS includes the following service and warranty support:
  • Three-year limited warranty
  • Compaq Pre-Failure Warranty - extends the advantage of an HP three-year limited warranty by applying it to the battery before it actually fails
  • $25,000 Computer Load Protection Guarantee
