What are the key differences between the 9000 series rack and 10000 series rack? |

The key differences between the two series of racks are color, loading capacity and size. The 9000 series rack is Opal in color, can accommodate up to 1450 lbs. (dynamic) and is 900mm/35.4 in. deep. The 10000 series rack is Graphite/Carbon in color, can accommodate up to 2000 lbs. (dynamic) and it is 1000mm/39.4 in. deep. |

Can I couple a 9000 series rack to a 10000 series rack? |

It is possible to couple 9000 series and 10000 series racks of equal "U" heights together. For example, a 9142 (42U) can be coupled with a 10642 (42U) or 10842 (42U). The kit required to do this is the 9000/10000 42U baying kit - 248931-B21. |

How do I couple two 10000 series racks of the same U height together? |

In order to couple two 10000 series racks of the same U height together the baying kit (10000 ser) - 248929-B21 should be used. |

All pre-merger Compaq server, storage and power products are rack mountable in the 10000 series rack. |

What improvements are incorporated in the 10000 series rack? |

The 10000 series rack can support dynamic weight loading of 2000 lbs. More cable management capabilities have been added such as cable egresses in the roof, removable access panel on the rear door, Velcro straps and split rear doors. In addition, customers can now customize their racks - a blank badge ships in the hardware bag that comes with each rack so customers can print their own company logo or number on it and replace the badge that ships standard on the racks. |

As with the 9000 series rack, the front casters are fixed on the 10000 series rack. Why was it designed this way? |

For safety reasons the casters on the front of the rack were designed to move only front to back. This prevents a fully configured rack from becoming unstable and falling when being unloaded or moved. |

Will the 10000 series rack support third-party equipment? |

The 10000 series is engineered specifically to support and seamlessly integrate with pre-merger Compaq hardware. However, since the Rack 10000 has a 19" industry standard width, it can support most third-party equipment either with the optional universal shelf kits or with adapters supplied by the third-party vendor. |

Yes. As with the 9000 series rack, the 10000 series rack can accommodate mounting products such as PDUs and switchboxes on the side of the rack rails. |

10000 series specific options such as the side panels have changed in design from the 9000 series models. The panels for the 10000 series rack are lightweight, require no tools to install and are locking providing added security to your rack and rack-mounted equipment. |

When should the 10842 rack be used? |

The 10842 or wide rack can be used as a switching rack to accommodate networking equipment or as a server rack. The rack maintains the 19" standard width for the mounting rails, but gives more room on the outside of the rails for cable management. |

Why did the colors of the ProLiant servers and racks change? |

Rather than changing colors, we are leveraging a portion of our color palette-which includes Graphite, Carbon and Silver-across our ProLiant, AlphaServer, Himalaya, and StorageWorks product lines. This new consistency is the culmination of our strategy to integrate the three heritage businesses of Compaq, Tandem, and Digital Equipment Corporation in the enterprise customer space. |

Will my existing Opal equipment (servers, storage products and racks) look bad when mixed with the new Graphite and Carbon products? |

No, in fact, the existing Opal color was one of six colors developed for the color palette three years ago. Opal works in harmony with the darker colors in the palette, including Graphite and Carbon. |

Will the current 9000 series rack cabinet change color? |

No, the current Rack 9000 will remain opal in color. Only the new 10000 series rack, which will be available later this year, will have the darker color. However, since the two colors are part of the same family the two racks will look acceptable next to each other. |

When will all of the Graphite/Carbon options be available? |

All of the options that have related color and are visible as an essential part of the rack, including blanking panels, stabilizer feet and side panels, will be available with the first group of racks. Other less color-critical options such as fan kits and keyboard drawers will be available with the second release of racks. Options such as switchboxes and monitors will be phased in with the darker colors as the products are upgraded. |

How long will I be able to get the 9000 series rack and options in Opal? |

All SKUs of the 9000 series rack will be available for a maximum of 18 months, and the Opal options will be available for a maximum of 24 months after the introduction of the last model of the 10000 series racks. |

Will 10000 series rack front doors mount on 9000 series rack frames? |

Yes, 10000 series rack front doors will fit on 9000 series rack frames of the same height. However, 10000 series rack rear doors will not mount on 9000 series rack frames. |
