Simplifies clustering

Intelligent shared storage enclosure to simplify clustering with the latest, industry-standard ProLiant Servers from HP

Modular Smart Array 500 is specifically designed for an easily deployable 2-node cluster or direct attached storage to a single node. It is based on SCSI technology, making it a familiar and cost effective and easy to deploy solution. The redundant controllers, built on Smart Array technology, provide an increased level of data availability external to the server node, The Modular Smart Array 500 has been designed for fault resiliency with controllers, battery-backed write cache, power supplies, and cooling, providing the customer with a high degree of data availability.

Increased fault tolerance

Increase fault tolerance by adding dual I/O paths to the same logical volumes.

Smart Array Multipath software delivers dual path functionality and supports failover capabilities for redundant host bus adapters (HBAs) in a server with redundant cabling to a Modular Smart Array 500. This fault-tolerance tool enhances availability of clustering and direct attached storage (DAS) solutions with up to two servers managing up to 2 TB of stored data. When an HBA failure occurs, the software moves the logical drives from the path of the failed HBA to the path of the redundant HBA located in the same server.

Multipath Cluster

Multipath Shared Storage

  • Increase availability by protecting against connectivity (HBA) failures and cable pull-outs.
  • Ships with 4-Port module at no additional cost
  • Static LUN Balancing
  • Static Load (read-only) Balancing
The Modular Smart Array 500 solution has been designed to provide the highest level of redundancy with SCSI economics. It is equipped with an array of redundant features, including redundant controllers, the option for redundant path the same logical volumes, cooling fans, and power supplies that provide affordable high availability features. In addition, the Modular Smart Array 500 Controllercomes equipped with an LCD screen to show system health and status messaging, providing an enhanced customer experience. Battery Backed Write Cache is standard in the Modular Smart Array 500, it is removable and transportable and it may be upgraded to 512MB. In case of power failure, the batteries on the cache will protect the data in the cache for up to three days. Redundant batteries on the cache module provide an extra layer of data protection. Finally, the Recovery ROM will protect against errors when flashing the ROM by allowing the system to fall back to the previously installed firmware version.

Maximize your storage utilization

Maximize your storage utilization by allowing up to 4 direct attached servers to share the Smart Array Cluster Storage

Deploying independent servers with its own internal storage may leave unused drive capacity in each server. By using the Smart Array Cluster Storage as the shared storage component up to four servers can share the Smart Array Cluster Storage and its drives. SSP is used to create logical volumes and each volume is assigned to a server. By being able to expand capacity online and also extend logical volumes online capacity can be added at any time. Migrating hard drives from the ProLiant serves to the Smart Array Cluster Storage is simple with DtS technology

  • Share Smart Array Cluster Storage with up to 4 servers
  • Greater external storage capacity utilization;
  • Use SSP to assign logical volumes for each server
  • Boot from external or internal hard drives
  • Maintains simplicity of Smart Array
  • Easily migrate to FC-SAN
