Fast and straightforward vritual deployments

XenServer integrated into ProLiant platforms enables rapid deployment to support common virtualization implementations such as server consolidation, software test & dev, and virtual desktop infrastructure.
  • An HP image of integrated Citrix XenServer is pre-installed on a USB key, which is then installed in the internal USB port of new or existing supported servers. The system boots directly from the image on the USB key, andHP integrated Citrix XenServer is automatically loaded into memory. The HP ProLiant Virtual Console setup wizard guides you through a straight-forward host and virtual machine configuration.

Multiple licensing options

HP integrated Citrix XenServer options are licensed by server, with the same per-server license price for either 2 socket or 4 socket systems.
  • HP offers the cost effective XenServer HP Select Edition, featuring all-in-one single server virtual machine management with HP ProLiant Virtual Console. HP Select Edition allows an unlimited number of virtual machines per server, with up to 32GB memory per virtual machine.
  • Citrix XenServer HP Enterprise Edition enables resource pooling and live migration. The savings really add up as ProLiant Virtual Console for single server management and XenCenter for virtual machine management across multiple servers are also included, with no costly software or backend management servers needed
  • As the virtualization installation grows, integrated HP Select Edition is easily upgraded to the Citrix XenServer HP Enterprise Edition by simply applying a new license key to the existing ProLiant server.
  • To help customer protect their investment and get the most from their Citrix XenServer solution, HP offers a support and subscription service portfolio to help customers resolve any issues quickly. HP bundles 1-year 9x5 unlimited support and subscription services with XenServer HP Enterprise Edition. Support and subscription services are optional with the XenServer HP Select Edition.

Simplified virtualization management

HP ProLiant Virtual Console removes complexity from virtualization installations by offering single server virtual machine management.
  • A first time wizard based setup guides you through initial installation and configuration in 10 minutes or less.
  • A straight forward GUI based interface provides ongoing virtual machine monitoring and management.
  • A multi-screen view of virtual machine consoles installed on the server eases the management process by allowing you to view multiple virtual machine consoles at once.
  • Performance monitoring lets you track both system level resources as well as resources being used by each virtual machine.
  • HP iLO 2 Advanced Pack (sold separately) allows you to remotely access both the physical host console as well as the virtual machine consoles installed on the server for optimum management flexibility. Use iLO2 virtual media capabilities to deploy guest OS’s to the local virtual machines.

Consistent, reliable ProLiant experience

HP extends the physical platform by integrating Citrix XenServer, while continuing to offer a tightly integrated ProLiant experience in a highly reliable environment.
  • Active hardware management. HP Systems Insight Management (SIM) agents are pre-installed along with integrated Citrix XenServer and ProLiant Virtual Console on the USB key to provide active hardware management using HP SIM. HP SIM interacts with these agents to pro-actively monitor system status and receive server pre-failure alerts to signal potential hardware issues.
  • Consolidated lifecycle management. HP has tightly integrated Cirix XenServer to maintain a consistent and reliable ProLiant management environment. Future updates to HP integrated Citrix XenServer can be made using the same tool used to update ProLiant system firmware. Consolidating integrated Citrix XenServer and ProLiant firmware updates within the same tool simplifies time consuming lifecycle management. In addition, the USB key is partitioned with redundant images, enabling a robust upgrade and recovery process.

Investment protection

Leveraging existing hardware and software investments is a key component of data center cost containment. HP and Citrix offer significant investment protection for customers purchasing Citrix XenServer integrated into ProLiant platforms.
  • HP supports a broad range of servers for XenServer products, allowing customers to continue to use their existing server standards in their virtual deployments.
  • HP invests heavily to ensure optimum interoperability and performance of Citrix products on HP platforms, including full-time engineering support on site at Citrix. This is one reason why more than 50% of all Citrix deployments run on HP servers. For support peace of mind, Microsoft provides best effort to support their premier-level customers running Windows as a guest OS on all Citrix XenServer products.
  • Optimized for performance, Citrix XenServer 64bit architecture leverages hardware-assist virtualization from Intel and AMD.
