What's New

Q1. How do I obtain Microsoft Windows 2008 SP2?
A1. In keeping with HP’s promise for a green IT, HP will only offer this kit for Korean, Japanese and Chinese languages. All other languages can be downloaded from Microsoft’s website http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008sp2. HP will be launching these product part numbers in the near future.
Q2. When and why should I upgrade to Windows Server 2008?
A2. If you are planning on new server purchases where your IT goals and design as well as applications could benefit from these new features, this is a good time to upgrade part of your infrastructure to this new OS. For reasons to upgrade to Windows Server 2008, visit the Why Upgrade Microsoft web page.
Q3. Will downgrade rights be available for Windows Server 2008?
A3. In your end-user license agreement, Microsoft grants the rights to use any prior version of Windows Server 2008 operating system or your Client Access License in place of the version specified on your Certificate of Authority. You must have an official copy and license of the previous version of the OS before you can execute the downgrade. For details, visit the Windows Server 2008 Downgrade Rights webpage.

Until December 31, 2009, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 products from HP purchased from HP or from HP authorized reseller will include the Windows Server 2003 R2 downgrade media that can be used to install on their server using the Windows Server 2008 license. Windows Server 2008 customers who did not receive their downgrade media, please contact their local customer support. Customers will be required to submit proof of Windows Server 2008 purchase to receive one copy of the downgrade media.
Q4. What are Windows server client access licenses (CAL)?
A4. In a networked environment, clients that require access to the server for functions such as file and print, require a license to that server. The license grants the user, a device or a terminal the right to access that server. For the different types of access, Microsoft provides a user CAL, device CAL and a terminal server CAL. For more details, visit the Microsoft CAL product page.
Q5. What is Software Assurance and what does it provide me?
A5. Microsoft Software Assurance is a maintenance offering available for various OS and application products. One primary benefit for Software Assurance is it grants you new version access rights to the next release of the operating system, as long as it was released within the period for which you acquired Software Assurance. HP SLMS sells software assurance - visit Software Licensing & Management. For more details, visit the Microsoft product page.
