Improve the experience of your remote desktop users with the new Microsoft RemoteFX technology provided in Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1 (SP1). RemoteFX lets Windows Server 2008 R2 administrators provide a rich end user desktop virtualization experience by delivering rich media content, independent of any graphics stack, to server-hosted virtual (VDI) and session-based desktops.
Concurrent with the Microsoft release of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, HP released a new Microsoft Client Virtualization Reference Architecture supporting RemoteFX. This reference architecture
The HP/Microsoft Client Virtualization Reference Architecture provides a thoroughly tested prescription for client virtualization that empowers your IT teams to improve compatibility and management of a desktop environment and reduce support costs; it enables new and flexible work models that provide anywhere, anytime access plus lets you meet compliance and data security requirements and increase utilization of computing resources.
With over 25 years of market leadership, technology innovation, and the goal of helping businesses around the world to improve their services, HP helps customers enjoy considerable peace of mind. Working closely with Microsoft, HP takes a comprehensive approach to client virtualization, providing key components that optimize RemoteFX installations while reducing time to deployment and lowering risk.
HP and Microsoft offer a winning combination of products for deploying RemoteFX that includes HP ProLiant servers, HP ProLiant Blade workstations, HP Storage storage, HP Thin Client products and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 OEM from HP.
For businesses adopting Client Virtualization technology, the anticipated benefits including lower PC operating and management costs, better security, and lower power consumption, came at a price. Graphics virtualization hasn’t kept pace, and in most cases it meant a sacrifice in visual computing and graphics performance.
Thanks to Microsoft RemoteFX there is no more compromise. Now remote workers will have the opportunity to access nearly any type of application or screen content, including rich media such as full-motion video and 3D applications, on connected remote devices such as thin clients.
HP’s reference architecture solution with RemoteFX
The HP Client Virtualization Reference Architecture is an end-to-end solution from HP and Microsoft including HP ProLiant Workstation Blades, HP ProLiant and BladeSystem servers, HP Storage, HP Networking, HP Thin Client access devices, and HP and Microsoft software. HP offers two solutions for delivering Microsoft RemoteFX capability.
The first solution delivers VDI with RemoteFX on the HP ProLiant WS460c G6 Workstation Blade - the flagship HP platform for RemoteFX customers as part of the HP Client Virtualization reference architecture. This architecture is designed to support up to 200 VDI users and 800 Remote Desktop Sessions (aka Terminal Services) users, allowing select VDI users access to a full Windows 7 experience through Microsoft’s RemoteFX technology.
The second solution includes a stand-alone server - HP ProLiant ML 370G6 (tower) and DL370G6 (rack) servers - that will support a maximum of two (2) third-party graphics cards, allowing an existing IT organization to bring VDI and RemoteFX into the data center. This solution targets midsized organizations and branch office installations. It supports VDI only, with RemoteFX capabilities.
