Hello, as you know the EBS product is being discontinued as of June 30, 2010, as described at www.microsoft.com/ebs. We wanted to apprise you of Microsoft's plans to help EBS customers migrate to individual products when the time comes for you to upgrade. We expect you will migrate off EBS servers at different rates and different timeframes depending on your business needs.
Microsoft will be providing two resources to EBS customers to help them with their migrations. First, they will be releasing a Migration preparation tool via a KB article. The preparation tool will remove all of the EBS specific bits (Administration Console, Change Management Utilities, Remote Web Workplace site, and core technical licensing enforcements that could interfere with migration). The tool leaves you in as close a state as possible as if you had purchased and setup the server applications in the EBS suite independently. From there you can utilize the second resource Microsoft will be publishing which are migration guide whitepapers. The whitepapers will cover migration to standalone versions of the EBS components and the next release of each of those components. The KB article will be posted at this URL effective June 30, 2010.
The migration preparation tool and the whitepaper for same version component migration are planned to release June 30th to coincide with the limited time software offer Microsoft is providing for existing EBS customers. The whitepaper for migration to current component releases is planned to be published in the fall of this year. We recommend you to contact Microsoft Support should you encounter any issues with the migration preparation tool.
