What is the benefit of integrating ESX Server 3i into ProLiant platforms? |

HP integrated ESX Server 3i speeds virtualization deployments by eliminating installation steps and simplifying host configuration. With a traditional CD based delivery mechanism, the local hard drives must first be configured, then VMware ESX is installed onto local hard drives. By integrating VMware ESX Server 3i within ProLiant servers, installation and configuration becomes much less cumbersome, with host configuration complete in about 10 minutes.
In addition, HP integrated VMware ESX Server 3i includes HP Systems Insight Manager providers for pro-active hardware management using HP Systems Insight Manager.

The HP image of VMware ESX Server 3i incorporates HP Systems Insight Manager providers, and is shipped on a USB key pre-installed in the internal USB port of the server. The system boots directly from the USB key, so new servers are ready to run ESX Server 3i right out of the box. |

Future updates to HP integrated VMware ESX Server 3i can be made using the same tool used to update ProLiant system firmware, HP Smart Update Manager. Consolidating integrated ESX Server 3i and ProLiant firmware updates within HP Smart Update Manager simplifies time consuming lifecycle management. Customers can also use VMware Update Manager to update the HP image on the USB key. VUM will detect that the host has an OEM image, and will retain that image across an upgrade. |

Customers with existing Enterprise License Agreements can purchase unlicensed ESX Server 3i as an integrated option from HP. The unlicensed HP image is shipped integrated on a USB key in the internal USB port of the server, allowing you to apply your own VMware entitlement to the server. |
