General |
| Q1. |
Specifically, what are the key features of Environmental Edge? |
| A1. |
Real-time feedback on environmental changes in your data center through data center environmental visualization and customer defined alarms. Detailed environmental data which can be visualized and trended for up to 180days. Benchmarking of the data center environmental conditions like, PUE, rack cooling index, and average daily rack temperature as a new best practice. Finally, flexibility to adapt to any data center environment with wireless environmental sensors, which are battery powered (with a 4 to 6 year lifecycle), and enables easy deployment, about 2 days per 5000 ft.2 / 500 m2. |
|
| Q2. |
What types of customers does the HP Environmental Edge solution target? |
| A2. |
HP Data Center Environmental Edge solution is both data center infrastructure and IT vendor agnostic. It can be installed in any data center, there are no data center prerequisites. |
|
| Q3. |
What data center operational savings can customers expect to achieve |
| A3. |
Customers can reduce data center energy by up to 18% by enabling data center optimization through the real-time visualization.- Supports higher rack operating temperature and chilled water temperature through the data center real-time environmental measurements
- Discovers up to 30% increase in cooling capacity by correcting data center inefficiencies such as: CRAH over provisioning / rack overcooling / rack air mixing and bypass / humidity control optimization
- Improves under floor air pressure up to 40% by ensuring correct floor tile placement and remediating unsealed gaps in the subfloor

|
| Q4. |
How does Environmental Edge differ from, or improve upon, Dynamic Smart Cooling? |
| A4. |
DSC provided customers with a solution that automatically controlled the cooling resources in the
data center based on input from rack based temperature sensors, and the environmental Edge solution is an excellent follow-on to DSC. The Environmental Edge solution does not actively control the cooling infrastructure, and instead provides extremely detailed, real-time information to customers about air flow, thermal changes, air pressure, power, and many other details. It enables customers to manually optimize their
data center cooling environment in a cost effective manner, while also constantly monitoring their environment for changes and issues. |
|
| Q5. |
What is new with power monitoring / visualization? |
| A5. |
- Energy Base Station will measure / visualize, Current , voltage, power factor, KWH consumption, THD, Avg Power
- Branch Circuit Monitoring base stations will measure current and voltage at the side level PDU to help customer discover where they are over or underprovisioined
|
|
| Wireless Technology |
| Q1. |
Wireless in my data center? Is it secure? |
| A1. |
Yes, the wireless network communicates via 802.15.4, and uses 128 bit AES encryption.
- The wireless gateway’s radio is isolated from the LAN interface by a serial link. The wireless portion of the gateway does not support any IP protocols, only correctly formed data will be passed through the serial link.
The LAN interface firmware only creates IP packets when it receives valid data over the serial link.
|
|
| Q2. |
The base stations are battery powered, how long will they last? |
| A2. |
Battery life is dependent on several factors, but at five minute reporting cycle time, most customers will experience battery life up to 4 to 6 years.
|
|
| Service and warranty |
| Q1. |
What is the warranty on this product? |
| A1. |
The HP Environmental Edge Hardware is supported with a Worldwide Limited warranty featuring 1 years of parts.
HP Insight Environmental Observer S/W includes one year of 24 x 7 HP Software Technical Support and Update Service. This service provides access to HP technical resources for assistance in resolving software implementation or operations problems. The service also provides access to software updates and reference manuals either in electronic form or on physical media as they are made available from HP. With this service, Insight Environmental Observer software customers will benefit from expedited problem resolution as well as proactive notification and delivery of software updates
|
|
| Q2. |
What service offerings are recommended? |
| A2. |
HP recommends same day 24x7, 4 hour response Hardware support combined with 24x7 2 hour response Software Technical support. This combination provides ready access to technical expertise, support for complex interoperability issue resolution, helping minimize any downtime and improve server availability, and enabling customers to focus on their core business. |
|
| Q3. |
Should I invest in HP Data Center Environmental Edge or commission a full
data center energy assessment? |
| A3. |
Both, HP Data Center Environmental Edge is an powerful yet inexpensive tool to collect the data necessary to enable an in-house or external data
center energy assessment. The availability of HP Data Center Environmental Edge
data may lower the cost of an assessment. Additionally, at the completion of the
assessment, HP Data Center Environmental Edge data can be used to measure the success of improvement projects and help identify further opportunities. |
|
| Installation |
| Q1. |
Is HP Data Center Environmental Edge installation complex? Is it hard to operate? |
| A1. |
- The combination of reliable wireless technology, intuitive interfaces, and HP
data center experience, provide an easy to deploy and easy to operate solution.
- Typical installation time is 1or 2 days
- Using provided software tools, users can modify display screens as room layout changes
|
|
| Q2. |
Does HP Data Center Environmental Edge take control of my cooling system? |
| A2. |
- HP Data Center Environmental Edge is a monitoring and reporting application only
- It cannot directly affect the operation of the cooling or energy systems
|
| Q3. |
Can the HP Insight Environmental S/W communicate with my building management system? |
| A3. |
Yes, it can communicate with most building management systems (BMS) via SNMP, ModBus or BACnet. This will require S/W mapping / coding work through HP services. |
