Answers

General

Q1. Can any server blade in the enclosure backup to the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448c Tape Blade?
A1. Yes. The HP Ultrium 448c Tape Blade provides direct attach tape backup capability for the adjacent server and network backup capability via the Ethernet connection for all other data within the enclosure.
Q2. Does the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448c Tape Blade protect data on the HP SB40c storage blade?
A2. Yes. The HP SB40c storage blade data can backup over the Ethernet connection to the HP Ultrium 448c Tape Blade. The server blade adjacent to the SB40c must have a backup software client license installed in order to move data from the SB40c to the tape blade during a backup. The backup server adjacent to the tape blade controls the backup process.
Q3. Can I connect an HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448c Tape Blade and HP SB40c storage blade to the same server blade?
A3. No. You can only connect a single storage blade or tape blade to a specific server blade. If you want to protect the storage blade data with a tape blade, you will need to install the tape blade adjacent to a different server (backup server) and install a backup software client license on the server adjacent to the storage blade. The data on the SB40c storage blade is backed up to the HP Ultrium 448c Tape Blade via a network backup over the Ethernet connection.
Q4. Can the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448c Tape Blade be installed next to full height server blades like the BL480c?
A4. Yes. You will need to install the HP PCI Express Mezzanine Pass-Thru Card for HP BladeSystem c-Class (431643-B21) when installing the HP Ultrium 448c Tape Blade adjacent to a full height server blade.
Q5. What do I need to enable network backups to the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448c Tape Blade?
A5. Each HP Ultrium 448c Tape Blade unit ships standard with HP StorageWorks Data Protector Express Single Server Edition data protection software. This data protection software enables you to backup the adjacent server directly to the tape blade. You will need to purchase additional backup software client licenses for each server that you want to backup over the network to the tape blade. Please visit www.hp.com/go/dataprotectorexpress for details on purchasing additional backup software client licenses for HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition. For all other data protection software products, please contact the vendor for additional details.
Q6. How does HP StorageWorks One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) work with the tape blade?
A6. The HP Ultrium 448c Tape Blade provides a disaster recovery solution for the adjacent ProLiant server blade. When used in conjunction with HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition data protection software, the tape blade automatically creates a disaster recovery tape from the latest full backup set.

So what's special about the OBDR capability in the HP Ultrium 448c Tape Blade? All other disaster recovery solutions for servers rely on the manual preparation of a set of disaster recovery floppy disks and/or CDs. The minute your system changes -- a new piece of software or a new peripheral is added, for example -- these disaster recovery disks are out of date. With HP StorageWorks One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR), you can automatically save your latest configuration every time you make a standard full backup set.

Likewise, many other disaster recovery solutions require a manual system recovery -- a process that takes time and extensive technical knowledge. If it is not done properly, you run the risk of further system failures. With HP One-Button Disaster Recovery, you will never have to perform a manual system recovery -- ensuring you, and your colleagues can quickly get back to business. You can quickly, reliably and simply restore your entire system just by inserting the most recent backup tape and pushing one button on the tape drive. Your HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448c Tape Blade will restore your operating system, configuration, applications, drivers and data files. The sheer simplicity of OBDR means the risk of a user error during recovery, and therefore subsequent recovery failure, is significantly reduced.

Q7. Where can I find compatibility information for the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448c Tape Blade?
A7. For a complete list of compatible server blades and operating systems, please visit our Go Connect website at www.hp.com/go/connect.
Q8. Is the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448c Tape Blade the only data protection solution available for BladeSystem c-Class enclosures?
A8. The HP Ultrium 448c Tape Blade is just one of many data protection solutions available for HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosures. HP has also qualified a number of Enterprise Backup Solutions (EBS), including tape libraries and virtual library systems. For a complete listing of EBS solutions available for your BladeSystem c-Class enclosure, please visit our EBS compatibility matrix located at www.hp.com/go/ebs (click the "EBS Compatibility Matrix" link under the Quick Links section).
